Sustainable Food Production

Respecting the environment and natural resources

Food production has always been closely linked to the environment and natural resources. For more than a century, we have been building our food supply chain responsibly and on nature's terms - always respecting the environment.

It is important for us to have a thorough understanding of how the food chain as a whole works and the environmental impact it has. In practice, this means that we work closely with research in this field. Only then can we target development measures correctly.

By focusing on action, we are actively committed to reducing carbon emissions and other environmental impacts, both in our own production and throughout the food chain from farm to fork. A carbon-neutral food chain is our top priority.

Towards a carbon neutral food chain

The life cycle environmental impact of Atria's products is focused on the production of meat, the main raw material. Producers play a key role in mitigating the environmental impact of primary production. Minimising environmental impacts at farm level means different solutions for each farm, depending on the type of production.

In addition to climate impacts, important environmental impacts in agricultural production include water intensity of production, eutrophication of water bodies, soil acidification, loss of biodiversity and scarcity of natural resources. All of these are given particular attention in Atria's primary production, and operating models are constantly being developed to become more environmentally friendly.
